Learn How to Make Cauliflower Subji – Quick and Easy Vegetarian Cooking

Cauliflower Subji (vegetable dish) is a simple, tasty healthy recipe. Quick and easy to make! Recipe includes Cauliflower, Ayurvedic Spices and oil, and is a stir fried dish.

Ayurvedic Cauliflower Subji

This is a really tasty and easy way to prepare cauliflower. It is rich in vitamin C and a good source of fiber. Serves 4 – 6

Ingredients:

  • 1 large organic cauliflower, sliced very thin
  • 4 Tbsp organic sunflower oil (or ghee)
  • 1 tsp black mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp hing (asafoetida) plus 1/8 tsp hing (Divided Use)
  • 1 green serrano chili, minced or finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp fresh ginger, grated, minced or finely chopped
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 Tbsp dhanna-jerra powder* (cumin and coriander mixture)
  • ¼ tsp organic natural sugar
  • ¼ tsp red chili powder (Optional)
  • 3 Tbsp fresh chopped cilantro leaves

Pre-Preparation Options:

Wash and slice (stand on its side and slice long and thin) cauliflower. Chop green chili and cilantro. Peel and chop ginger. Store each pre-prepared ingredient separately in refrigerator.

Wash cauliflower. Slice into very thin long strips that will fall apart from the side of the cauliflower. Set aside.

Cooking Instructions:

For chaunce (oil & spice mixture): In a large skillet or wok, add 4 Tbsp sunflower oil (or ghee) on low medium temperature. When oil gets hot, reduce heat. Add 1 tsp black mustard seeds. When seeds begin to pop, add ½ tsp hing, chopped serrano chili, 1 Tbsp ginger, ½ tsp turmeric and 1 tsp sea salt. Stir for 1 – 2 minutes.

Add cauliflower. Stir fry for 3 – 5 minutes. Add 1 Tbsp dhanna-jerra powder and 1/8 tsp hing. Mix together gently. Add ¼ tsp natural sugar and 3 Tbsp fresh chopped cilantro. Stir gently to combine all ingredients.

Serve hot. A great easy dish. May need more salt …taste and adjust.

OPTIONAL: If you want a spicier dish, add ¼ tsp red chili powder.

NOTE: This is considered a dry subji dish; however, the end result should be a bit moist. Add purified water 1 Tbsp at a time, as needed, to keep it from being too dry.

* 1 ½ tsp cumin and 1 Tbsp coriander powders can be used to replace dhanna-jerra powder

This Khitchari recipe is a total meal and be used alone. Great for a Spring cleanse. Recipe includes Rice, Beans, Vegetables, Ayurvedic Spices and more.

Khitchri – Rice, Dal, and Vegetables

This is a high protein rice, bean, and vegetable dish and can be served as a main course with raita, a yogurt salad.

When not feeling well, you can make this dish spicier for a more cleansing effect and eat only this as it is a full meal. Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup yellow mung dal, split peas, or whole mung beans*
  • 1½ cups basmati rice
  • ½ organic cauliflower, washed and separated into small florets
  • 4 red skin organic potatoes (or sweet potatoes), washed, peeled, & diced in small pieces
  • 4 medium organic tomatoes, washed and chopped small
  • 1 bunch organic greens, kale, collards or spinach, rinsed & chopped medium fine
  • 3 Tbsp organic ghee (or organic sunflower oil)
  • 2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp hing powder (asafoetida)
  • 2 fresh green serrano chilies, minced or finely chopped
  • 2 tsp fresh ginger, grated, minced or finely chopped
  • 7 cups purified water
  • 2 tsp sea salt
  • 2 tsp turmeric
  • 2 tsp cumin powder
  • 3 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 Tbsp Earth Balance** (or butter)
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper

Pre-Preparation:

Rinse dal (beans) and rice together in a small holed colander. Let drain.
Rinse and chop ½ cauliflower, 4 tomatoes, 4 potatoes, and I bunch greens. Set aside.

Cooking Instructions:

For the chaunce (oil & spice mixture): Heat 3 Tbsp ghee (or organic sunflower oil) in a large saucepan on medium high until hot. Reduce heat and add 2 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp hing, 2 green chilies and 2 tsp fresh ginger. After they sizzle for a few seconds, put in ½ cauliflower and 4 potatoes. Turn vegetables with a wooden spoon gently for 4 – 5 minutes until they become flecked with brown spots.

Add drained 1 ½ cups rice and 1 cup dal. Stir-fry for one minute. Pour in 7 cups water. Add 2 tsp sea salt, 2 tsp turmeric, 2 tsp cumin powder, 4 tomatoes, and greens. Bring to a full boil over high heat.

Reduce heat to low. Cook with the pot partially covered for 30 to 40 minutes until dal is fully cooked and soft. (If using whole mung beans, cook 10 minutes more; split peas a little less. If using brown rice, cook an additional 20 minutes.) Stir once or twice in the beginning to prevent rice from sticking to the bottom of the pot.

Sprinkle 3 Tbsp lemon juice and add 2 Tbsp Earth Balance (or butter) on top. Simmer on low heat for a few minutes until grains have absorbed all liquid. Season with ½ tsp black pepper. Mix all ingredients gently but quickly with a fork.

*If using yellow mung dal or whole mung beans, recommend soaking in purified water overnight, just covering the beans

**Earth Balance is a low fat and healthy substitute for butter.

The Secret to Healthy Skin and Hair

Learn the Secret to Healthy Skin and Hair

Use Organic Products for Beautiful Skin and HairToday the products that we put on our body and the food we put in our body is filled with chemicals.  These chemicals cause hair loss and dry skin to name a few of the issues.

Flat irons destroy your hair, chemical products create illness and most of the beauty products females and males use are usually 100% chemicals. You must understand that chemicals create illness.

A natural and organic beauty product line like Aveda is the cream de la cream creates wellness. Since I created the first all natural, organic day spas in the Southwest, utilizing all Aveda products I know what I am talking about here. Aveda uses the “Art and Science of Ayurveda” in everything they do.

As a beauty and Wellness Guru for 51 years, I have counseled, coached and recommended all natural, organic and holistic beauty products for your skin and hair to my clients. There is no comparison to Aveda products as far as their cleanliness, quality, and health benefits.

I use Aveda Products for all my clients because:

  • Aveda is Pure Flower and Plant Essences (Aromatherapy/Aromaology)
  • Creates beautiful shiny healthy hair
  • Amazing younger looking skin
  • Contains NO Chemicals – your hair and skin will NOT Dry out
  • No Harmful Side Effects that creates illness
You must “Go Back to Nature — Where Your True Nourishment Lies.”

It is also important that you understand that 98% of all Beauty and Wellness products on the market will harm you if used daily because of the excess chemicals.  “Natural” has become a big trend as people have become more health conscious. You still need to read the ingredients on the product because many beauty and wellness products could have one natural item in it, and so they call the entire product line natural, which isn’t the case in reality.

If you hair is thinning you can restore it. I recommend Aveda’s Invati – Shampoo, Conditioner, AND Scalp Therapy. Aveda has a choice of product lines to select from for your skin care type.

Two Easy Ways to Make A Big Change In Your Health Through Detox

You can make a big change in your health by following two easy detox practices. This post shares that with you.

Most experts into ‘Anti-Aging concepts agree that, we CAN Stay Younger Longer in both body and mind. There is a healthier movement starting to gain a lot of momentum now and rightly so.

So many in the US are ill, on medications, have weight issues, depressed, or have some type of disease. This all breaks down to dis-ease. When one’s body is out of balance for long periods of time, dis-ease happens in some form.

Know this about YOUR health:

  • You have 65% control over your health
  • The other 35% is hereditary
  • That 35% can be regenerated if you adapt a healthy lifestyle

Better eating habits, lots of rest, some exercise, and a positive state of mind goes along ways in creating a healthy lifestyle.

The positive state of mind is what rules all good health.

The famous Wellness Guru, Dr Deepak Chopra, my main mentor and teacher, helped bring ancient wisdom to the West through his many books, his Chopra Clinic, his on-line courses and public appearances. One of his books, Perfect Health, I recommend to everyone. He gives us a plan for a healthier lifestyle, which includes foremost, peace of mind.

There Are No Incurable Diseases” as Dr. Richard Schulze’s writes about in his book.  It is all about Detox and Cleansing because we live in unhealthy times.

Our world is full of toxic chemicals that we battle every day, whether we are aware of it or not.

One simple Detox practice you can do is to drink Detox teas. In China and Japan they drink green tea all day, at least 4 cups a day. You can purchase Detox Teas made by many different companies at almost any grocery store now. Quality organic brands are always best.

Another simple way to detox is to look at your sugar intake. Sugar is in everything you are consuming, especially if you shop at regular grocery stores. Health food stores normally use organic sugar cane or a derivative that is healthier. Sugar is an additive in almost every product that you buy.

Sugar in all your food adds at least 5 pounds a year, it is not only unhealthy, because of weight gain, but it robs you of your natural energy.

Today, I have shared two important ways how to take control of your health and help reverse the 35% hereditary health issues.

Off to drink some Detox Tea …

Food is Brahman. Food is God. Food is the healing herb. When you recognize food as scintillating Consciousness, then your whole relationship with it is altered. Food is a blessed gift of the Lord.
